Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame
Jim Kampen, ranks on Northern State's all-time scoring list with 1,206 career points, was a member of three SDIC champion teams and went to the national tournament his sophomore year. He was named to the all-conference team his junior year and set Northern State's 44 point single-game scoring record. Kampen received the Emil Liston Award which is given anually by the NAIA to a junior who has achieved academic and athletic excellence.
During his senior year, Kampen was named all-conference and South Dakota College Athlete of the Year. He also participated in track and cross country earning 12 varsity letters during his career. He coached basketball at South Dakota Tech who finished in the SDIC in 1967. In 1972, his team captured the SDIC crown and went on to the national tournament posting a 21-6 season record.Â
