Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team will open the 2022-23 season with a pair of home meets this weekend at the Aberdeen YMCA. The Wolves will host Concordia-St. Paul and Southwest Minnesota State for a relay meet starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears will then stay in town for regular dual meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to close out the weekend competition.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
- Northern State was picked to finish eighth in the NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Preseason Coaches' Poll tallying 22 points, just three points shy of MSU Moorhead and Southwest Minnesota State who were tied for sixth
- Last season the Wolves swam to a 4-4 dual meet record and a sixth place finish at the 2022 NSIC Championships; Maddie Gonzales (200 Backstroke), Lauren Forsyth (200 Butterfly), and Haley Osborne (200 Freestyle) earned all-conference honors
- Northern's three all-conference swimmers were the most since 2017 for the program
- Osborne set the NSU freshman record in the 500 Freestyle (5:08.14) and recorded an NCAA B-Cut time in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.45) at the conference championships
- Freshman Lilly Grebner was tabbed as the NSU Swimmer to Watch in the conference preseason release
- Grebner was the South Dakota high school state champion in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, 200 Butterfly, and the 200 IM this past summer
- Since 2018 Grebner was a South Dakota state champion in at least three events every year
- Kaden Huntrods enters his second season as the head coach of the Wolves
CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL STORYLINES
- Concordia-St. Paul was picked to finish ninth in the 2022-23 NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Preseason Coaches' Poll tallying eight points
- Last season the Golden Bears swam to a 0-11 dual meet record and a ninth place finish at the 2022 NSIC Championships
- Farida Maher was selected as CSP's Swimmer to Watch this upcoming season, following a 2021-22 season where she was named the NSIC Freshman of the Year
- Maher was All-NSIC in the 200 and 500 Freestyle, and earned NCAA B-Cut times in the 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 Freestyle
- Rachel Busch enters her second season as the head coach of the Golden Bears
LAST MATCH-UP
- Northern State and Concordia-St. Paul competed against each other twice in duals last season with the Wolves defeating the Golden Bears both times
- NSU defeated CSP 132-64 on October 1, 2021, and earned their second victory over the Golden Bears 150-42 on January 28, 2022
- Northern leads the all-time series 2-0 with both meetings happening last season
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES

- Last season the Mustangs swam to a 9-2 dual meet record and an eighth place finish at the 2022 NSIC Championships
- Natalie Bohnert was selected as SMSU's Swimmer to Watch and Sarah McDonald was tabbed as the Mustangs Diver to Watch
- Bohnert earned All-NSIC honors in the 100 and 200 Backstroke last season, marking the fourth and fifth all-conference honors of her collegiate career
- McDonald competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events last season, placing 11th in both events at last year's conference championships
- Marty Wahle enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Mustangs
LAST MATCH-UP
- Northern State and Southwest Minnesota State competed against each other in one dual meet last season, with the Wolves earning a 128-92 victory over the Mustangs on January 28, 2022
