Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament, with a 75-56 victory over Winona State from Wachs Arena. With the win, the Wolves improve to 22-7 overall.
The Wolves out-scored the Warriors in each half notching 35 points in the first and another 40 in the second. Northern tallied 34 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers, 16 point off the bench, and eight second chance points. The Wolves shot 56.0 percent from the floor and held the Warriors to a 36.8 percent clip on defense.
Logan Doyle led the team with 22 points, shooting 9-of-10 from floor with four blocks and six rebounds.
Mack Arvidson was second on the team with 14 points, scoring the 1,000 point of his career with his eighth point of the game. Arvidson became the 52
nd member of the Northern 1,000 point club.
DJ Pollard led the team with 12 rebounds and four assists, and added a third best nine points.
Gabe King and
Justin Decker rounded out the NSU starters with eight and six points respectively.
Carter Evans led the team off the bench with eight points, followed by
Bo Fries and
Jonny Dahl with five and three points each. Fries and Dahl were second on the tam with three assists each, while Evans tallied a team leading two steals.
Northern will face Augustana in the quarterfinal round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament on Sunday at 8 p.m. from the Sanford Pentagon. Full tournament and ticket information can be found on the
