Aberdeen, S.D. - NSU Head Coach
Kevin Bjerke announces the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Nicolette Kneeland (Summit, S.D.), Sami Shields (Aberdeen, S.D.), Bryce Malsam (Roscoe, S.D.), and Reganne Engebretson (Platte, S.D.) will join the Wolves in 2016-17.
| Nicolette Kneeland // Summit, S.D. // Summit HS Nicolette is a thrower out of Summit High School and a team captain for the Summit Eagles. As a junior, Kneeland recorded person bests in the shot put (37'6.25") and the discus (108'9"). She is also her school's record holder in both events. Nicolette has earned team field MVP the past three seasons as a state track participant. She also participates in basketball and volleyball where she has earned numerous team and individual awards. |
| Sami Shields // Aberdeen, S.D. // Aberdeen Central HS Sami is a cross country and track runner for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles. Shields placed tenth this fall at the ESD Conference cross country meet to help win the team title, and followed that up with a 20th place finish at state. In 2013 she earned the most improved award and was also named All-ESD and All-State in 2015. Sami and the Golden Eagles are also three time ESD track Champions and the 2015 State Runners-Up, where she ran in the 1600m run, 4x800 and sprint medley relays. Shields also participates in basketball for Aberdeen Central. |
| Bryce Malsam // Roscoe, S.D. // Edmunds Central HS Bryce is a hurdler and jumper for Edmunds Central HS, where he's been a three year team captain for the Raiders. Malsam earned athlete of the week and MVP the past two seasons for Edmunds Central. He is the 2013 State 110m hurdle Champion and 2014 State double hurdle Champion. Bryce has recorded personal best in the 110m hurdles (14.66), 300m hurdles (40.39), high jump (6'4"), and long jump (20'5"). Malsam is also the school record holder for most yards rushing in a single season as a member of the Raiders football team. He also participates in basketball at Edmunds Central. |
| Reganne Engebretson // Platte, S.D. // Platte Geddes HS Reganne is a 200m and 400m runner for Platte Geddes High School where she has served as a two year team captain for the Black Panthers. Engebretson has earned team MVP honors for five straight years in cross country, as well as the 2014 Chamberlain Relays. As a state participant, Reganne has placed eighth in the 100m dash (2014), fifth in the 3200m relay (2011), eighth in the 3200m relay (2014), fifth in the 1600m relay (2014), seventh in the 1600m relay (2015), seventh in the medley relay (2015), sixth in the 800m relay (2015), and a best of 3 state cross country meet appearances of 15th overall (2013). |
"We are excited to have some dynamic talent coming in next year spread across several different events," noted Bjerke. "We have traditionally had a very well balance track and field program with several quality athletes in each of the various event areas. Our coaching staff has done a great job of identifying this group of local athletes, and we look forward to what these four will add to their specific event groups."
